The term classic or vintage yacht invokes several images: sleekracing boats with impeccable sheer lines and tiny transoms, or perhaps thoughtfully designed cruising sailboats with teak decks and varnished trim. Today the resurgence in interest in classic yachts is evidenced by the numbers of yachts being lovingly restored and by the many classic yacht regattas held around the world. The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta week is one of the finest such regattas with increased participation by a wide variety of world class yachts. Boat International is proud to be the sponsor of the Concours d’Elegance.

The philosophy behind the criteria of the Concours d’Elegance in many ways represents the backbone of the thinking behind all of the Boat International Publications - attaining excellence in all possible ways including our personal best. In judging this event, points are awarded according to the condition of each yacht, including how close she is to her original form.

There are two categories: best professionally-maintained yacht and best privately-maintained yacht, with winners in five divisions; Traditional: vessels built as work boats, Vintage: vessels older than 50 years, Classic: vessels older than 25 years, Spirit of Tradition: which is for vessels younger than 25 years and Classic Motor Yachts. We would like to encourage yachts of all types to enter the Concours. Beyond gleaming brass and unstreaked varnish, we are looking foryachts that achieve their “personal best.” While the appeal of classic yachts is caught up with aesthetics, sailing performance, a sense of history and timelessness, the most profound draw to classics is something intangible...perhaps it has to do with heart and soul...the way a yacht has a life of her own, transcending her owner...Since all the various yachts we judge were built to different standards with different design specifications, it is only fair that we judge each yacht according to her own unique qualifications... Anyone can win... please don’t hesitate to register for the Concours d’Elegance.

Judging takes place on Friday 18th April and all participating yachts are asked to moor stern-to at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina by 9:00 a.m. to facilitate the judging. More details will be given at registration on Wednesday 16th April and Thursday 17th April.
